Award winning artist D. W. Robbins and his cat Georgie Girl reside in the central Wyoming community of Riverton in the historic Wind River Basin. Denny is past president of the Riverton Artists Guild and a member of the Wyoming Artists Association as well as the Northwest Pastel Society. Artist's works that greatly influenced his decision to become an artist were by Winslow Homer, Sidney Laurence and Charlie Russell. Homer's use of light and the atmospheric quality of Laurence's paintings as well as Russell's storytelling, drawing ability, and simple brush strokes and extreme depth of his paintings fueled the desire of Denny to become an artist. Although mainly self taught, his style has been influenced by painting with noted Jackson, Wyoming plein-air artist Gregory McHuron and Cheyenne, Wyoming pastelist Lynn Newman. His mediums of choice are pastel and oil with his pastels being noted for their vivid colors and abstract visions and his oil paintings for their more traditional view of the western landscape. Believing that the artist's greatest gifts are imagination and creativity, Denny usually works from sketches done in black ink so as to not influence or inhibit his use of color and light in the final work of art. While some of his works are of actual places, most are composed from his memories, imagination and various parts of studies he has sketched. Denny and his old back cowboy had can be found on many of the back roads of the Western U.S. as he paints and sketches studies of the landscape for future inspiration when he returns to his studio. He holds the occasional pastel workshop or demonstration with emphasis on the use of color and light plus the freedom of stroke and thought. His artwork can be found in the permanent collection of Central Wyoming College as well as on display in the Wyoming Governor's office. Currently Denny has a pastel painting entitled "Girl Talk" on tour with the University of Wyoming Traveling Art Exhibition.
